Mahi & Grunters: Gulf Shores Inshore Action with Ray Chaters

I headed out with Shrunga and their crew for an early morning fishing adventure on June 1st. We launched from Butler Beach at 6:00 am, greeted by partly cloudy skies with the possibility of storms later in the day. The water conditions at Butler Beach were favorable for our target species. As we set out, I briefed the crew on our plan for the day's Inshore Fishing Adventure in Gulf Shores. With my experience as a guide for Ray Chaters, I was confident we'd find some action in the waters off Florida's coast. Florida's coastal flats offer excellent sight fishing for redfish and snook around mangrove islands and oyster bars during high tides. In deeper channels, drifting live shrimp or pinfish near bridge pilings can produce catches of grouper and snapper. Offshore reefs hold amberjack and cobia, best targeted with vertical jigging techniques in 80-120 feet of water. Tarpon migrate along beaches in late spring, where slow-trolling mullet or crabs near passes can be effective. May's a great time to be out here, with the Striped Bass getting active as the water warms up. We kicked things off at 3:00 pm, heading out from Florida Florida under partly cloudy skies. The weather held up nicely, giving us a perfect afternoon on the water. We started off trolling, hoping to entice some of those big Stripers. After a bit, we switched it up and tried some bottom fishing. The real game-changer was when we broke out the live bait. That's when things got exciting! Kumar hooked into a monster Striped Bass. I kicked off another great day of fishing with a trip out to Butler Beach in Florida. May's a prime time for fishing here, with the waters warming up and the fish getting more active. Met up with our guest at 4:00 am in Florida Florida - always love those early starts when the water's calm and quiet. We headed out to our spot, and I could tell it was gonna be a good one. The weather was partly cloudy, perfect for fishing. We set up for some shark baiting and chum deployment, really trying to draw in the big ones. While we were mainly after sharks, we ended up hooking into a monster Striped Bass. This thing was a real fighter, measuring in at 34 inches! It gave us quite the battle, but we managed to get it in the boat. Even though we were doing some cage diving and underwater photography, landing that Striper was definitely the highlight of the day.
