It was a beautiful clear day out on the flats at Butler Beach, and I was excited to take our guest, shrunga m, out for some fantastic fishing. February is a prime time for flats fishing here, with the Sooty grunter feeding aggressively in the shallow, clear waters. We met up at the Butler Beach access point around 9 AM and got all set up, ready to hit the water.

As soon as we pushed off, the fish started showing themselves - small groups of Sooty grunter cruising the sandy flats, hunting for baitfish and crustaceans. We started working the area, making careful casts with our lightweight tackle, trying to entice a bite. It wasn't long before one of the Sooty grunter slammed my offering, kicking off an exciting fight. shrunga did a great job keeping steady pressure on the fish, and we were soon lifting a nice one into the boat. The action stayed steady, and we managed to land a few more of those hard-fighting grunter before deciding to try a new spot.

Throughout the day, the fishing was consistent, and we had a great time exploring the flats and searching for feeding fish. The clear conditions made spotting the grunter easy, and we were able to stalk them carefully, making precision casts to entice those explosive strikes. Between the great fishing, the beautiful surroundings, and the good company, it was an all-around fantastic day out on the water.
